AI Governance Commons Opens as a Free Public Resource
Operated by Synthetic Labs, the Commons brings together governance references, free tools and reporting, and a private workspace to help organizations understand and manage AI governance.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 20, 2026
On February 20, 2026, AI Governance Commons opened a free public resource and community for organizations working to govern their use of artificial intelligence. Operated by Synthetic Labs, the Commons brings together reference material, practical tools, reporting, and a private workspace to help teams move from understanding expectations to documenting and improving their practices.
The Commons’ Crosswalk organizes laws, standards, schemes, and organizations, including information about status, dates, and applicability. The “What applies to me” guide helps visitors explore requirements that may be relevant to their organization. The Wire publishes reporting, research, playbooks, and updates, with licensing and attribution information to support appropriate reuse.
Free public tools include the Posture Review, Security Essentials, a domain configuration check, an AI Tool Register, CMMC Level 1 self-check, privacy and policy tools, and resources for incident response and fraud prevention. Visitors can use the public tools without an account. Their answers remain in the browser unless they choose to save progress.
Organizations that need ongoing records can create a free private workspace to maintain an AI inventory, related obligations, policies, supporting evidence, assessment history, incident records, and reports. The workspace also supports team collaboration and public trust pages.
The Commons is an informational resource, not legal advice. Site text is licensed under CC BY 4.0 unless otherwise marked; Crosswalk data is licensed under ODbL 1.0, and the Deployer Baseline is licensed under CC BY 4.0. Individual resources may have separate terms.
